Founded in 1971, American Litho Color, Inc. began as a color separation trade shop. At that time, separations were made using conventional photographic reproductive processes. Vacuum frames and process cameras were the state of the art. ALC built its business and reputation on providing only the highest quality color separations. Since then, operations have been upgraded and expanded to make American Litho Color a full service digital imaging and prepress center. Quality color is still the cornerstone of ALC. The process has changed but the standards have stayed the same.

ALC is dedicated to staying on the forefront of technology and as always providing the highest quality. Prepress services offered range from expert preflight and file prep for printing, digital photography, hi-end drum scans and digital proofing up to 60 inches.

Since late 2005, our primary focus has been the art of Giclée Printing. We have been providing the finest color separations for fine art reproductions since the company was founded. In 1997, at the request of some of our fine art clients, we began digitally printing paintings directly to canvas. These "Giclée" prints use archival materials and inks that some third party researchers estimate a live span of over 150 years.

In late 2007, we introduced ALC Publishing to promote and distribute the art of clients and friends. The online Giclée Gallery can be viewed by clicking the "FIne Art Store" link here or above.

Our operations are focused into workgroups, each of which concentrate on a specific market. Each workgroup is staffed with highly trained and experienced personal to guarantee a superior finished product.

The Fine Arts Workgroup produces Giclée prints, litho prints, and digital scans directly from original artwork. Artwork or any rigid original up to 60"' x 90"' are digitally scanned by the ALC Cruse Scanner. In some instances where the original is not available, color transparencies are scanned on hi-end PMT drum scanners. The resulting digital image is then output as a giclée print directly to canvas or fine art paper with archival color fast inks or output to color separated film for offset lithography.

The Retail Workgroup manages the production of advertising inserts and circulars for a variety of retail chains. This group photographs product, color corrects, retouches, outline, and creates drop shadows. These images are added to the asset management system of servers and stored online for ad production. At this point, ALC can produce the complete project or customize the workflow for any client requirement. Digital proofs or pdf's are sent out for approval and the finished color separated negatives or high resolution files are then sent to the printers.

The Commercial Workgroup handles prepress production for Printers, Advertising Agencies, and Marketing Departments. These services include digital and analog photography, hi-end PMT drum scans, matchprint grade digital proofing, preflight, trapping, inposition, and pdf file prep.

The Large-Format Digital Print Workgroup produces many types of indoor signs, banners, posters, display graphics, and Point of Purchase materials. ALC offers both dye based and UV pigmented prints on dozens of different materials up to 60 inches wide by 100 feet long. Finishing services include, but are not limited to mounting, laminating, coating, die-cutting, and grommeting.

In 1971, American Litho Color began building a reputation for producing consistent high quality film separations. That same standard for quality lives on today, only the process has changed. Whether it is prepress production, ad production, signage, or fine art giclées, American Litho Color has the capabilities to turn your project into a work of art. Our President, Arthur Rawlings, is fond of saying, "To say we reproduce fine art is like saying Michelangelo painted ceilings."
